Veteran Riddles
I run, though I have no
legs to be seen. I possess no heat, yet I produce mist. I have no voice to let words out,
but from far away you can still hear me shout. What am I?
"a
waterfall"
I have many feathers to
help me fly. I have a body and head, but I'm not alive. It is your strength which
determines how far I go. You can hold me in your hand, but I'm never thrown. What am I?
"an
arrow"
You must keep this thing, its loss will affect your brothers. For once yours is lost, it
will soon be lost by others.
"your
temper"
Inside a burning house,
this thing is best to make. And best to make it quickly, before the fire's too much to
take!
: "haste"

"a
dream"
What book was once owned
by only the wealthy, but now everyone can have it? You can't buy it in a bookstore or take
it from a library?
"the
telephone book"
This runs fore to aft on
one side of a ship, and aft to fore on the other. What is it?
"the
name of the ship"
I am a box that holds
keys without locks, yet they can unlock your soul.
"a
piano"
I am nothing but holes
tied to holes, yet am strong as iron.
"a
chain"
Only one color, but not
one size; stuck to the ground, yet easily moves. Present in sun, but not in rain; doing no
harm, and feeling no pain. What is it?
"a
shadow"
A word I know, six
letters it contains. Subtract just one, and twelve is what remains.
"The word 'dozens'.
